10. Ask

He said, “Ask, and it shall be given you;” Matthew 7:7. But how do you know that you qualify for this? Who do you belong to? If you belong to Jesus, the One who spoke those words, you qualify. “But I failed the other day so maybe it isn’t for me after all.” But if you confess your failure and turn away from wrong doing, you are clear! Forgiven is a word is hard to understand. When you are forgiven, you are free and there is no wall between you and the forgiver, Jesus Christ.

How often is the Lord waiting for us to come to him with our need? He is not stingy. We see that in the feeding of the five thousand with five loaves and two fish. He made sure they had enough, with leftovers.

Our Father in Heaven knows how to give good things to those that ask him (Matthew 7:11). Often the things we need the most, money cannot buy.

If Jesus were to suddenly stand before you in a physical appearance and would say to you, “Ask, and it shall be given you” , what would you ask Him for? The truth is, you don’t have to wait on such an appearance because His Word is real and is for you today. Go ahead and ask and give Him the opportunity to do what you can’t. He will be honored if you do.

9. My Helper

“The Lord is my helper. ” Hebrews 13:6. He can do what we can’t. Do you have problems in your personal life? The Lord is your helper. Problems with drugs or with strong drink? The Lord is your helper. Family problems? Son or daughter on a path of destruction? Problem with your husband or wife? The Lord is your helper. Problem with your parents or church? The Lord is your helper! Do you have physical problems, sickness, disease, pain? The Lord is not only your helper, He is also your healer!

It is true that the Lord knows all about us. So why does He not then just fix everything automatically, especially if He loves me? We find part of this answer in Matthew 7:7-11, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in Heaven give good things to them that ask him?”

Why is it so hard for us to ask? Our human nature doesn’t like to be dependent. We’re often too proud and self sufficient, but if we humble ourselves and ask, we will receive.

8. The Response

To fully believe the promise, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee“, will lead to the response found in Hebrews 13:6 which is the very next verse. “So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” Hebrews 13:6

What a liberating truth! How this can set a person free is unexplainable! This is part of the inheritance that God has for His children. This is a provision that our enemy, Satan, fears. If he can talk you out of it, he will. That’s why we must hear the Word of God and shut out conflicting voices. The longer you walk with the Lord, the easier and more clearly you will discern His voice.

Some may say, “I wish I could come to the place where I deserve such a promise so I could finally claim it. Well, the good news is that none of us ever deserve these things, but He will give us these things by His grace. We cannot earn the gifts of God, but when we receive His forgiveness He puts us in a position to receive His gifts and promises. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8, 9. As we have received salvation by faith, so we receive every other promise by faith as well.

7. Never Alone

For He has said, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” Hebrews 13:5b. It makes all the difference in the world who said this. Is this person trustworthy? Does He keep His promises? Does He change His mind? Is He faithful?

This promise is spoken to us by the same King and Lord that we spake of in Part 6. This is spoken by the God that cannot lie. Hebrews 6:18, “it was impossible for God to lie,”. How wonderful!

I’ve found this to be true, although there were times I thought I caught God in unfaithfulness. Yet every time it turned out that it was me not seeing things right. Every time He proved Himself true even though at times it took awhile to see it.

Jesus was faithful when mankind was sold to Satan through sin and disobedience. He came to earth to buy back mankind. He was faithful when He went to the cross. He was faithful on the cross when He could have called on the angels to deliver Him. He was faithful to give His life……for you! Why would He not be faithful now? He is a faithful promise keeper. To really know this and fully believe this will bring you to a very clear response.

6. The Promise

The Master of the universe, Creator of Heaven and earth has declared to His people, “… and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the earth.” Matthew 28:20. The One who is Almighty is with you always. The One who knows everything is with you always. The One who knows the future is with you always.

He said, “All power is given to me in heaven and in earth.” Matthew 28:18. Who said this? Jesus did! As human beings we cannot measure this power, but we are invited to walk with the One who has all power. What a possibility!

How can this possibly be turned into reality? You don’t have to miss out on this. This is the answer to all our problems. This is the greatest opportunity ever offered to mankind.

Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you.” James 4:8. After you come to the reality of being born again as was explained in Part 5, The Way, you have the opportunity to walk with God. Talk to Him just as you would to another person. He hears you and He will talk to you. This communication is both ways. Talk to Him about everything. He won’t be surprised about anything you say because He already knew it. He has the answer for every situation you face in life. You can trust Him with everything. Will you?
